CHANGE THE AIR CONDITIONING FILTER

If you didn’t already know, your air conditioner whether it’s central AC, packaged air, ductless air conditioning, or a heat pump, they all utilize a filter. The filter acts as a barrier from dirt and dust and keeps it from entering into the air conditioner, thus creating breathable clean air. Depending on the type of air conditioner you have, your AC filter may be located in a vent in the ceiling or within the air conditioning unit. Before you do anything, turn your air conditioner off, and make sure the new filter is the right size. Carefully remove the old filter to avoid dust particles falling off, discard it, and then insert the new one.

CHECK THE AC FAN OR BLOWER FOR DEBRIS

Many commercial and residential air conditioners have a fan or blower that circulates the air through the unit and into your home or business. Even with a filter, it’s possible that the fan or blower can accumulate dust and debris. Make sure to shut off the power to the air conditioner and then access the blower or fan. You can easily remove the dirt with a clean rag or duster. Once you finish cleaning the fan, replace any removed parts and restore the power back to the unit.

CLEAN AROUND THE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT

If your air conditioning system is located outdoors such as a heat pump, central air conditioner, or any other outdoor unit, it’s exposed to the elements. Central air conditioners are especially prone to debris since they’re generally placed on the ground. Things such as grass, weeds, trees, and bushes are likely to build up around the AC unit which can cause it to malfunction. The easiest way to get rid of these nuisances is to trim and remove the weeds regularly and to clean off any dirt.

After integrating these tips you should see your air conditioner running more efficiently. If you find you need professional air conditioning maintenance in North NJ, call Advanced Professional Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling!
